07/02/2005 - Today the lining went into the ceiling of the porch - I was to paint the wood, but we're low on the oil based primer so, despite getting Amanda to grab me some turps - there wasn't enough paint (or good weather) to get cracking into it. Not to worry, there's a bunch of stuff to get done tomorrow night - including ripping out the ceiling of the hallway as the guys are planning to put the new gib up on Wednesday/Thursday.
08/02/2005 - Brian went home crook today, but left Noh with a list of things to do, which meant we came home to a bath in its cradle. The flashings were installed over the ensuite window and front door and most of the holes in the weatherboards patched around the porch where it'd been opened up for slotting beams into the framing and stuff. The sub floor for the laundry deck/landing also went in.
Despite an all day 'Strategic Thinking' workshop and it's hawk-eyed facilitator (who'd jump on you if you even looked remotely as if you wanted to check email's or touch anything like your lap top or cell phone) I managed to hide in a corner and organise the 9x6 Tarpaulin which we'll need once the roof comes off. Aside from that, it was late home, dinner, put the kids to bed then review then homework from the course.
09/02/2005 - The weatherboards off the porch above the distribution board went in (apparently I didn't see these were missing yesterday - I blame strategy days). The guys also cut the posts for either side of the main steps and pre-built the handrail for the back deck in readiness for the prenail arriving.
10/02/2005 - The guys spent the day sanding the entry rail, framing the access door under the deck and re-fixing the weatherboards under the bedroom windows on the west side of the house. They also switched the office door with a window in it, for a door without a window which we'd previously removed form... well, somewhere!
I was going to paint the cieling of the porch today, but after walking the dog and going around the back to start the BBQ going so I could get started, the boys managed to lock us out of the house so we were stuck outside for about an hour waiting for Amanda to get home. Fortunatly we managed to call her and found out that she'd be home late enough for me to try climbing through one of the high up but marginally open windows, it worked and we got back insode (whislt I wondered why I didn't bother trying earlier...)
11/02/2005 - Crikey... Jiminey heck... I'm buggered, and that's just after a couple of hours giving the guys a hand to move the framing from the kerb up to the property, the guys are planning to come back tomorrow at 07:30 to do the cieling in the hallway which they'd not got around to given that the pre-nail arrived just as they were about to get going.
Before the prenail arrived, Brian and Noa finished leveling the bath, removed the cieling in the hallway, put in the nogs for fixing the gib, concreted in the last two posts under the deck and noged the toilet wall.
The thing about the prenail was that Carters also dropped off about 300m of 3x2 on top of the framing. This would have been fine if they were supposed to deliver it, but since it was a mistake, and they didn't get around to sending atruck to pick it up again, the guys spent a bit of time waiting for the phantom truck and in the end we had to lift and store that stuff under the deck before we even got around to the insanely heavy framing < insert further whining about how weak and unfit I've become >. We're expecting them to pick it up tomorrow. [Edit: The timber didn't get picked up until about mid the following week - and then they credited us back for shorter lengths than they'd charged us for and had the audacity to bill us for raising a credit! Let me tell you - the Accountant, she is not a happy lass and will be having some words :) I love my wife, she's very handy for picking up on this stuff (which is why I'm not allowed anywhere near the paperwork for this project - winners all 'round!)]
12/02/2005 - Heh heh heh... I got me a jackhammer! (well, hired for a day anyway..)
The guys arrived at about 07:30 to pop up a couple of sheets of gib in the hall cieling to save us from the heat over the weekend, I'm on crowd control this weekend while Amanda studies for her 2 exams for the papers she took in summer school over Christmas so after feeding the boys, we headed over to Hirepool to pickup the jack hammer and a couple of bits. The guys had gone when we returned so I set too out the back to get as much destructoin as I could done before 10:30 when we needed to get the boys ready for their first ever music lesson.
We got back and I got into things around 13:00 so from then until about 16:30 I was vibrating my arms to death, I busted out the front steps. Dad came to help, hirepool closed BANG on 5
13/02/2005 - Nothing in the way of renovations was done today, I was looking after the boys again to free up Amanda for study, so we just hung out and did some chores then took Kali for a wash and groom (she's much happier for it).
I did look at the steps I'd freed yesterday but decided against trying to drag them out by myself, I'll see if I can enlist Dad sometime next week.
